Educational Visits

Ercall Wood Academy

Aims to offer children a broad, rich, and engaging curriculum

At Ercall Wood Academy, we believe that every child should experience the world beyond the classroom as an essential part of learning and personal development, whatever their age, ability or circumstances.

Offsite activities have a great potential for enhancing the educational, personal and social development of students by enabling them to participate in experiences which are not available to them within the classroom or school setting.

School trips and visits are often the most memorable learning experiences which help students to make sense of the work around them by making links between feelings and learning.

The benefits of educational visits and outdoor education include opportunities to:

  • Enhance learning and raise achievement
  • Develop independence and resilience
  • Support, extend and enrich our curriculum
  • Face and overcome challenges
  • Raise confidence and self-belief
  • Develop important social skills
  • Enhance appreciate on the natural works and improve environmental awareness

It is a priority of the academy that all visits and off-site activities are safe, well-managed and educationally beneficial.

Each year we have a commitment to offer local, national and international trips to our students. For further information about educational visits, please contact the school.

GLOBAL CONSENT

For those trips that are free of charge, and take place during normal school hours, we use Global Parental Consent. This is extremely popular with both our parents and students alike, and we use the Global Consent held on the academy system to allow students to attend visits at short notice, due to absence of a student or a change of mind on the day. The Global Consent Form is given out to all new starters here at Ercall Wood Academy and should be completed and handed in with the necessary school application forms. Parents/carers will always be notified of any trip by letter, and an email will be sent out with all the details closer to the date of the visit. Should your child wish to take a vacant space on a trip that day parents will be notified.

If you have not given school your Global Consent it is easy to do so, just email in and ask for this to be added to your child’s school account.

EXPECTATIONS

Whilst on visits students are reminded that they are representing the academy and are expected to behave according to the academy’s behaviour policy, showing respect and courtesy to the public as well as staff. The academy reserves the right to refuse any student a place on a visit if their behaviour is judged to be inappropriate before the visit. All students will be briefed prior to any visit as to what is expected of them. Students are also reminded that they need to catch up on any schoolwork missed during the time away on a trip.

OTHER EDUCATIONAL VISITS

For all our trips where a payment is required, we use a program called ParentPay. This system allows parents to not only pay for a trip but also give their consent for their child to attend. Regardless of whether the trip is free or at a cost, consent is given through this program. It is important to have an activated ParentPay account so that your child does not miss out as spaces as some of our enrichment and career trips are limited.

To activate your ParentPay account you will require a unique username and password, which school can provide you with. Set up is easy and all you require is a phone, laptop or tablet and a working email address.
