Ercall Wood Academy and the Learning Community Trust is

committed to keeping our students safe both in and outside school.

At our academy, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and underpins everything we do. Keeping young people safe is our highest priority, and we are committed to providing an environment where every student feels safe, valued, respected and able to learn and thrive.


We are committed to creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where every student and adult feels safe, valued, respected and listened to. The welfare of our students is at the heart of everything we do, and we work tirelessly to ensure that young people are protected from harm and supported to thrive both in and beyond school.


We have dedicated safeguarding and child protection staff who are trained to support students and families. Their details are clearly displayed throughout the academy, ensuring that students, staff and visitors know who to approach if they have a concern. In addition, all staff receive regular safeguarding training and understand their responsibility to identify concerns, act appropriately and help keep students safe. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and all members of our academy community play a vital role in promoting a culture of vigilance and care.


Our academy is committed to the principles of Keeping Children Safe in Education and works closely with families, external agencies and the wider community to promote the emotional, physical and mental wellbeing of all children and young people. Through robust policies, effective procedures and a strong culture of safeguarding, we strive to ensure that every young person feels safe, supported and able to achieve their full potential.

This May Help

This May Help has been created to support parents, carers and families with concerns about their child’s mental health.

The subjects covered on this website have been chosen by families and young people who have gone through their own challenges. There is a range of videos and an additional link for a downloadable advice page which covers topics from online safety, fussy eaters, sleep hygiene, building resilience and many more topics.

What is safeguarding?

It might be difficult to accept, but every child can be hurt, put at risk of harm, or abused, regardless of their age, gender, religion, or ethnicity. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment
  • preventing impairment of children’s mental health or development
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

In line with statutory guidance, Lantern Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Every employee (permanent or temporary) and governor of the school, as well as every volunteer who assists at the school, is aware that it is their legal duty to protect children from harm.

Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing

Being a parent/carer to a teenager in today’s modern world isn’t easy.  No one gives us a manual to direct us through this phase of our young peoples’ lives, or provide us with the answers to take the barrier/s away. 

It is inevitable that they will be faced with challenges that us as family members or educators may not have faced during our childhood or find it difficult to relate to.
